Wikipedia Birthday Meme


I thought I'd have a go at the latest meme doing the rounds. All you need to do is: go to Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org/). Type in your birth date (but not year). List three events that happened on your birthday. List two important birthdays and one interesting death. Post this in your journal.

January 1st:

Events:

1894 - The Manchester Ship Canal, England, was officially opened to traffic.
1958 - The European Community is established.
1985 - The first British mobile phone call is made by Ernie Wise to Vodafone.

Births:

1863 - Pierre de Coubertin, French initiator of the modern Olympic Games (d. 1937)
1958 - Grandmaster Flash, Barbados-born musician

Deaths:

1997 - Townes Van Zandt, American musician (b. 1944)

Interesting. I'd give it a whirl but I've now got a premonition it'll be a disaster, as soon as I typed in, "October 10th" the insipid page came up:

"The Wikimedia Foundation servers are currently experiencing technical difficulties."

I should just take the hint I think...
